Meet some of our Programs
Reading
We use the Wilson Fundations program, Waterford Computer program and the McGraw-Hill Treasures program. We have a block of time each day to work on our skills. In a few weeks we will begin our Guided Reading groups in order to meet individual needs.
Morning Meeting
Children meet at the rug. We greet one another, read the morning message together, share stories, and enjoy a literacy-based teamwork-enriched movement activity. During this time of day we reinforce listening skills and following directions. Morning Meeting helps foster literacy and community.
Calendar
This is a daily, whole-group lesson. We introduce new concepts as well as reinforce concepts introduced during our Math or Literacy blocks. A few examples are counting, weather, graphing, letter sounds, sight word recognition, shape recognition and patterns.
Our Math Block
Children participate in lessons directed by the teachers and in independent practice of skills. Emphasis is on Common Core Learning Standards. Lessons contain teacher-directed math lessons, reinforcement activities, critical thinking skills and application problems.
Centers and Academic Choice
Our favorite part of the day! Children choose activities based on our current academic themes including painting, water table and sand table, computers, drawing, building blocks, books, puzzles, kitchen, rug activities and tabletop activities. We encourage the children to play out, work out, and act out lessons taught previously.
Specials
Children have Physical Education on: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (please remember to wear sneakers). The children also play outside after lunch every day, weather permitting.
Library: Mondays, please return library books in your child’s folder on Monday morning
Art: Monday afternoons
Spanish: Mondays
Computers: Fridays
