GEneral Information
Folders: Each day, your child will bring home a folder in his or her backpack. Finished work that does not need to be returned to school will be in there, as will any notes from school. Please look carefully in your child’s folder every day, as any notes will come home to you in this way.
Lunch: You may choose to either buy lunch at school or bring your own lunch from home. Please be aware that we don’t have microwaves in our classroom or in the lunch room, so if you are sending in a hot lunch please heat it at home and send it in a thermos to keep warm. If you choose to buy lunch at school, please send $2.00 cash in a sealed envelope with your child’s name on it. In past years, a number of parents sent lunch money in a small zippered bag with their child’s name on it. It was clearly identifiable to us, it eliminated waste and it saved time. Even better, you can prepay once a month and not have to count those coins or uncrumple those bills every morning. Just go to hbschools.us and follow links (For Parents, then Cafeteria) to enroll in the prepaid lunch program. Once you’ve prepaid, your child will scan his or card that we keep in school.
Notes: I feel that it is very important for us to have correspondence with one another. If you have any notes for me to see, please put them in the folder. We do not regularly check backpacks, so it is important that your note be placed in your child’s folder only, and not down in his or her backpack. In the folder today is a note that you can photocopy and fill out instead of writing a letter to me. If it makes life easier for you, by all means use it. Some parents have a template on their computer that they change the text to and print out. I have received notes on some of the funniest surfaces available – scraps of wood, cereal boxes, you name it. The most important thing is that I be able to see it, so please don’t stick your note on a teeny piece of paper that could get lost inside the pocket; it must be large enough so that it is visible inside the folder.
Physical Education: Our P.E. days are TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY. Children must wear sneakers on these days in order to participate in P.E.
Walkers: If your child is a walker, please pick him or her up at the door closest to the flagpole. If your child is a walker sometimes and takes the bus or goes to scope on other days, please write a note to me in your child’s folder. More communication is better than less communication, so please write to me each time there is a change in your child’s pick-up schedule. Thank you!
Supplies: Thank you for sending in supplies! We have everything we need at this time and if we run low on wipes or tissues, we will send you a note to let you know.
PTA: Please join the PTA! PTA forms are being sent home, and all parents that sign up have the opportunity to become a class parent. Class parents get to do all of the fun stuff, namely planning our Holiday parties, so sign up with the PTA!
Also, please send in an extra set of clothes in a ziplock with your child's name on it just in case he or she has an accident.
In Writer's Workshop children practice putting their great ideas to paper. In Kindergarten, we are learning skills such as writing our stories from left to right, sounding out words, accessing information by using our sight wall for proper spelling of sight words, and basic capitalization and punctuation skills. After writing and drawing their stories, children "publish" their work by sharing their pictures and reading their sentence or sentences.
In kindergarten, we use the Fundations Method. Good handwriting skills are critical for success for your little ones as they become older students. Please stress to your child at home as we do in school to focus on proper formation of letters: start at the top!
